Chapter 13

Texas Bar

The sounds of beer glasses clinking and deep hearty chuckles filled the air of a broken down Texas bar. Men wearing cowboy hats and traditional plaid clothing yelled and fought quite often, then suddenly a thump, thump, thump interfered with the drunken conversations – and the swinging of helicopter blades soon followed.

“What the heck is that?” one muscular big guy wearing a red bandana said angrily.

“Get away from the wall, you idiots!” the fat bartender yelled. Out of nowhere, a quick ka-boom broke through the roof of the building, and dozens of bricks flew down, cracking the skulls of two men. Out of the dust appeared four men in pitch-black jump suits, hanging by black ropes and aiming machine guns at the drunken men, who were covering themselves for dear life. The soldiers had scanners on the end of the guns that shone a green laser light, and they were shining it at everyone’s face at the bar.

The largest of the men in black said to the bartender, “Where are they?” with a mean, deep voice.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” said the fat bartender, who was too big for his pants.

“They were just here less than an hour ago,” said the large man in black.

“Who??!?!” said the bartender, clearly sweating up a storm now.

“Four men. They look normal, but they act out of place.”

“Oh, those guys. Yeah, they didn’t seem right. They sat down in that booth over there, but they didn’t drink any beer. They’re gone now.”

Just then, a fifth man in black slid down the rope from the helicopter. He was shorter and thinner than the rest, and he pulled out an odd-looking scanner and began scanning in the direction of the booth.

He then pointed and said, “Under the table, Sergeant!”

The large soldier reached under the table, found some radioactive object, and handed it to their little leader, who quickly put it in a lead box. The leader then said, “We’re getting closer - and they’re getting sloppy.”

Then they suddenly left, scurrying back up the ropes as the helicopter flew off into the distance.
